Line Privacy Policy
Line Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 22, 2026
Line is an augmented reality drawing app for iPhone and Android made by Dan Moore ("I", "me"). This policy explains what information Line uses, why, and what choices you have. If you have questions, contact me at [your contact email].
The short version
- Line does not sell your information and does not show ads.
- You do not need an account. Line signs you in anonymously so it can keep shared drawings working.
- Camera images are processed on your device to draw in AR. If you draw with a friend or publish a drawing to a place, camera data is sent to Google's ARCore service to create a shared anchor.
- Your location is only used while the app is open, to find drawings near you and to save the place where you publish a drawing.
- Drawings you publish to a place are public. Anyone using Line nearby can see them.
Information Line uses
Camera
Line needs the camera to show the world around you and place your drawings in it. Camera images are processed on your device and are not stored or uploaded by me.
When you draw with a friend, or publish a drawing to a place, Line uses Google's ARCore Cloud Anchors to recognize that spot. To do this, Google processes visual data from your camera, such as images of your surroundings, on its servers. Line runs on Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), which is provided by Google and governed by the [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy). Anchors for drawing with a friend expire after 1 day. Anchors for published drawings expire after up to 365 days.
Microphone
If you record a video of your drawing, Line can record sound with it. Videos are saved on your device and only shared if you choose to share them. I do not receive your videos.
Location
Line asks for your location only while the app is in use, and only for the nearby drawings feature:
- **Finding drawings near you.** Line uses your location to look up published drawings in your area. The lookup sends an approximate area (a geohash range) to the server; your exact location is not stored for this.
- **Publishing a drawing.** If you choose to publish a drawing, its location (latitude, longitude, and how accurate the location was) is saved with it so other people can find it there. Published drawings and their locations are public.
You can use Line without granting location access. You just won't see or publish drawings in places.
Drawings
- **Drawing alone.** Your drawings stay on your device unless you share a video or publish them.
- **Drawing with a friend.** While you draw together, your strokes are sent through Firebase Realtime Database so your partner sees them live. Room codes used to join expire after one hour or when you leave. [Confirm how long shared session data is kept, for example "Session data is deleted after X days."]
- **Published drawings.** When you publish a drawing to a place, its strokes, location, the time it was made, the platform (iPhone or Android), and an anonymous ID for your copy of the app are stored in Cloud Firestore and are visible to anyone using Line nearby.
Anonymous ID
Line signs in to Firebase Authentication anonymously. This creates a random ID that is not linked to your name, email, or phone number. It is used to keep track of which shared and published drawings are yours and to stop abuse.
Reports
If you report a drawing, a report tied to your anonymous ID is saved so each person can only report a drawing once. Drawings with several reports are hidden. Reporting also hides that creator's drawings on your device.
Analytics and crash reports
Line uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, for example which features are used and whether AR tracking starts. It uses Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports, including device model, OS version, and the state of the app when it crashed. This information is not used to identify you and is not used for advertising.
Service providers
Line is built on services from Google:
- Firebase Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Firestore, Google Analytics for Firebase, and Crashlytics
- ARCore and ARCore Cloud Anchors
These services process data on my behalf under Google's terms. See the [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) and [Firebase privacy information](https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy).
How long information is kept
- Room codes: up to one hour.
- Cloud Anchors: 1 day for drawing with a friend, up to 365 days for published drawings.
- Published drawings: until they expire with their anchor, are removed for breaking the rules, or you ask me to delete them. [Confirm.]
- Analytics and crash data: according to Firebase's default retention settings. [Confirm your Analytics data retention setting.]
Your choices
- You can deny or revoke camera, microphone, and location permissions at any time in your device settings.
- To delete a drawing you published, or all data tied to your copy of the app, email me at [your contact email]. Tell me roughly where and when you published the drawing, since there is no account to look up.
- Deleting the app removes your drawings and recordings stored on your device.
Children
Line is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has published a drawing, contact me and I will remove it.
Changes
If I change this policy, I will update the effective date above. Significant changes will be noted in the app or on this page.
