AireGAN

AIREGAN

AireGAN is a body of work that examines form, authorship, and cultural production within sneaker design.

The series operates at the intersection of creator, tool, and prior art. Using machine learning alongside the meticulous assembly of visual references, it constructs a dialogue between bootlegs, one-of-one sneakers, and mass-market brands, spanning both couture and hype economies. These categories collapse into one another, revealing a design landscape built on iteration, citation, and recombination.

Rather than producing entirely new forms, AireGAN works through the logic of the readymade. Existing sneaker silhouettes, materials, and design languages are reapproached, redefined, and reappropriated. The resulting objects feel both familiar and unstable, recognizable as sneakers yet displaced from any single lineage.

The work reflects a broader shift in how objects of cultural significance are designed and authored. In this system, authorship is distributed. The designer becomes a curator of signals, a negotiator between dataset, model, and history. What emerges is not a singular vision, but a composite.

AireGAN positions sneaker culture as a generative system, where originality is less about invention and more about transformation. Each piece exists as an accumulation of references, shaped by both human intention and machine inference.

Released as a limited numbered edition, the series situates itself within the economies it interrogates, occupying the space between artifact, commodity, and experiment.
